Our areas is in a unique position to benefit from production of alternative energy like biofuels. Our forests need to be thinned to keep them healthy and reduce the danger of forest fire. Periodic thinning will provide jobs and the product of thinning, biomass, can be converted into cellulose ethanol.
Engieers at OSU have developed technologies that may well position Oregon to be a national leader in wave energy. The new science could be the beginning of an era of clean, affordable and renewable electrical power. Wave energy production is not in its infancy, but it is research and development that OI will support unequivocally, as it will provide no only sustainable energy, but well paying jobs in many fields. Oregon should be the national leader in this exciting area.
