Education
We need increased funding for education. I will work to build a world class education system by investing more from our general fund in our K-12 and local colleges. Oregon would attract more investment and higher paying employment with a better educated work force.
- The teacher to student ratio is hindering the student experience.
- Better education can solve many of the problems that plague this community daily
- More emphasis must be put on the government to find ways to improve the K-12 educational system
Economic Development And Alternative Energy
I believe we have a great opportunity for economic development in the emerging Bio-fuels industry. We should expand our research into bio-fuels, solar, geothermal and ocean energy (where Oregon is leading the way). The high price of fuel is driving up the cost of living. Renewable energy is creating job opportunities and is our best hope for energy independence.
- The develpment of local alternative fuels can lower our dependence upon expensive oil.
- Many new jobs will be created with new these new industries that will bring the standard of living up in our community.
Identity Theft
This is an enormous problem, especially so for those of us in District 17, where the identity theft rate is one of the highest in the nation. I will work to provide better tools to Oregonians to protect themselves against this offensive crime, starting with legislation to prohibit credit card companies from sending unsolicited credit applications.
Law Enforcement And Fighting Meth
Everyday our neighborhoods are feeling the effects of drug crime, especially that related to methamphetamines. Current methods dealing with drug crime have proven ineffective and proven solutions must be turned to in solving this problem. Also, most people agree that our law enforcement situation calls for change. I believe that people are entitled to the best services possible when they have been the victims of crime or have suffered an accident. Whatever the dilemma, the police, fire department, or ambulance should be there for you within four minutes. Our taxes pay for and so you should receive, help in a swift and professional manner.
- 90% of all property crime is caused by local meth use and distribution.
- 90% of all local child abuse is meth related.
- Building more prisons is not the answer, treatment for addicts costs less and is far more effective than incarceration alone.
“I am devoted to sensible, long-term thinking for the good of my community. It is time to take government out of the hands of people who lack a sense of reality. Let’s put an end to their philosophy of lousy government services and corporate wellfare which is a disaster for small rural communities.”
